Το «The Fate of Ophelia», το πρώτο single από το άλμπουμ της «The Life of a Showgirl», αναδείχθηκε βίντεο της χρονιάς, κατακτώντας το σημαντικότερο βραβείο της βραδιάς.
Η Σουίφτ αφιέρωσε τη διάκριση στη Ντόλι Πάρτον, που πέθανε τον Αύγουστο σε ηλικία 80 ετών, αποκαλώντας την «την απόλυτη showgirl».

Μιλώντας από τη σκηνή, εξήρε την ικανότητα της Πάρτον να αφηγείται ιστορίες μέσα από τα τραγούδια της.

Η Σουίφτ παρέλαβε επίσης το πρώτο βραβείο Artist Director Honors, που αναγνωρίζει τη δουλειά της στη σκηνοθεσία μουσικών βίντεο.
Σύμφωνα με το ισότοπο έχει γράψει και σκηνοθετήσει 18 από τα περίπου 60 βίντεο της καριέρας της.
Κέρδισε ακόμη το βραβείο καλύτερης σκηνοθεσίας για το «Opalite».
Στην ίδια τελετή παρουσίασε και το νέο της βίντεο για το τραγούδι «Patient Zero», με πρωταγωνιστές την Ντακότα Τζόνσον και τον Κόλιν Φάρελ.
Η Μαντόνα ήταν η μεγάλη νικήτρια της βραδιάς, με επτά βραβεία, ανάμεσά τους εκείνα της καλλιτέχνιδας της χρονιάς και του καλύτερου dance video.
